NHAI Exceeds Highway Construction Target in FY 2025–26, Builds Over 5,300 km Roads

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recorded strong growth in national highway development during the financial year 2025–26, surpassing its annual construction targets.

Over 5,300 km Highways Constructed

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, NHAI constructed over 5,300 kilometres of National Highways during FY 2025–26.

  • Annual target: 4,640 km
  • Achievement: 15% higher than the target

This milestone reflects the government’s continued focus on infrastructure expansion and connectivity improvement across the country.

Capital Expenditure Crosses ₹2.44 Lakh Crore

The ministry also highlighted that NHAI’s capital expenditure (capex) for highway development reached over ₹2.44 lakh crore during the financial year.

  • This is 2.5% higher than the government’s budgetary support for the year
  • Indicates strong execution capacity and accelerated project implementation

Boost to Infrastructure and Economic Growth

The increased pace of highway construction is expected to:
