Heavy Security Deployed on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Amid Maratha Reservation Protests

Date:

Maharashtra, India – In a significant development, heavy security has been deployed at both entry and exit points of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway at Lonavala. The Rapid Action Force and a bomb disposal squad have also been stationed in the area.

The move comes as supporters of Maratha reservation expressed their intention to travel towards Mumbai via the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. However, the police have directed them to use the Old Pune-Mumbai highway instead.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, a major artery connecting the two bustling cities, has seen an unprecedented level of security. Both entry and exit points at Lonavala, a popular stopover on the expressway, are under heavy guard. The Rapid Action Force, an elite security unit, has been deployed, along with a bomb disposal squad, indicating the seriousness of the situation.

Maratha Reservation Protests

The increased security measures are in response to the ongoing protests by supporters of Maratha reservation. The protesters had planned to travel towards Mumbai using the expressway. However, in a bid to ensure safety and maintain order, the police have permitted them to travel via the Old Pune-Mumbai highway.

The Maratha reservation issue has been a contentious one, with supporters demanding quotas in education and jobs. The protests have intensified in recent times, leading to heightened security measures.

As the situation continues to evolve, the focus remains on maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of all road users. The redirection of the protesters to the Old Pune-Mumbai highway is seen as a move to prevent any potential disruption on the expressway.

The authorities have urged citizens to stay calm and cooperate with the security forces. The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
