Agriculture Sector Improving, India Aims to Become Global ‘Food Basket’: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Date:

New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has praised the Centre’s initiatives in the agriculture sector, stating that conditions have significantly improved in recent years and efforts are underway to address remaining challenges.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the Minister said that India has achieved remarkable progress in food grain production under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India Leads in Rice Production, Wheat Output Rises

Chouhan highlighted that India has emerged as a global leader in rice production, while wheat output has also increased substantially. He noted that overall food grain production has grown by 33 percent and the government has prepared a comprehensive roadmap to further strengthen the sector.

“We are ensuring that no negligence is allowed in achieving our agricultural goals,” he said.

The Minister emphasized that the government is working towards making India the “food basket of the world” by boosting production of high-quality fruits and vegetables and simplifying agricultural processes. He reiterated that farmers remain the backbone of the nation and their interests will never be compromised.

‘Bharat Vistar’ Platform for Farmers

Chouhan also shared details about the newly introduced Bharat Vistar platform, designed to provide farmers with access to government schemes and solutions in one place.

According to the Minister, farmers will no longer need to visit multiple offices for assistance. The platform offers answers to agriculture-related queries and does not require advanced IT knowledge to use.

He added that Bharat Vistar will soon be launched in multiple regional languages to ensure accessibility for farmers across the country.

Krishi Vigyan Mela to Spread Awareness

The Minister also spoke about the upcoming Krishi Vigyan Mela, which aims to provide farmers with information about the latest agricultural advancements and best practices.

He said the fair will serve as an important platform to educate farmers about new developments in agriculture, helping them adopt improved techniques and avoid future challenges in farming.

With increased food production, digital support platforms, and farmer-focused policies, the government aims to strengthen India’s agricultural ecosystem and position the country as a global agricultural powerhouse.
