Akshaya Tritiya Boosts Nagpur Markets: Jewellery Sales Hit ₹150 Crore, Over 2,000 Vehicles Sold

Date:

Nagpur: The auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya triggered a strong surge in consumer spending across Nagpur, with jewellery sales estimated to cross ₹150 crore and more than 2,000 vehicles sold during the festive period.

Celebrated as one of the most favourable days for purchases and new beginnings, the festival witnessed heavy footfall across major commercial hubs, including Sarafa Bazaar in Itwari, Mahal market, and Dharampeth. Buyers thronged shops for gold, silver, clothing, and consumer goods, keeping markets busy till late at night.

Jewellers reported robust demand despite record-high prices, with gold rates hovering around ₹1.54 lakh per 10 grams. Industry estimates suggest that this year’s jewellery business surpassed last year’s ₹125 crore mark, reflecting strong cultural and emotional buying sentiment associated with the festival.

Traders noted that while the intense daytime heat kept shoppers indoors, footfall surged in the evening after traditional पूजा rituals, leading to brisk sales. Many customers preferred lightweight jewellery and smaller purchases, aligning with changing buying patterns amid high prices.

The automobile sector also witnessed significant momentum. According to dealer associations, more than 500 four-wheelers were sold, with SUVs leading demand, while total vehicle sales—including two-wheelers—crossed the 2,000 mark across the region.

Apart from shopping, the festival also saw people engaging in traditional practices such as charity and community meals, reinforcing the spiritual significance of the day.

Akshaya Tritiya, considered a symbol of prosperity and good fortune, once again proved its economic impact, driving strong retail activity across sectors in Nagpur despite soaring gold prices.
