MahaChatur AI: Maharashtra CM Unveils New Chatbot for Youth Skill Development

Date:

Mumbai: In a major push towards integrating artificial intelligence into public skill development systems, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has launched an innovative AI-powered platform called “MahaChatur AI Chatbot”, aimed at transforming how youth in the state access training, jobs, and career guidance.

The launch event was held at the Sahyadri State Guest House in Mumbai, where the Chief Minister officially introduced the chatbot as a comprehensive digital solution designed to support skill training, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship guidance, and career counselling through a single interface. The initiative has been developed by the state’s Department of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Speaking at the launch, Fadnavis highlighted that Maharashtra is leveraging AI to bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that young people can transition more smoothly into the workforce. He emphasized that the platform will act as a “one-stop solution” for youth empowerment, helping them discover opportunities aligned with industry requirements.

One of the key features of MahaChatur AI Chatbot is its availability on WhatsApp, making it easily accessible even for users in rural and semi-urban areas. The chatbot is designed to simplify complex processes such as apprenticeship registration, eligibility checks, and job applications. Officials stated that tasks which earlier took days can now be completed in just 15 minutes using guided AI assistance.

The system has been developed in collaboration with Rightwalk Foundation, and is built using AI models integrated within secure government-controlled infrastructure, ensuring data privacy and sovereignty. It also offers real-time guidance on training programs, job openings, and entrepreneurship pathways, making it a multi-functional career support system.

Fadnavis also underlined that Maharashtra has a large youth population, noting that a significant percentage is under the age of 35. He said the government’s focus is to ensure that this demographic advantage is converted into skilled manpower for industries, helping both employment generation and economic growth.

The chatbot also supports features like market linkage information, skill assessments, grievance redressal, and apprenticeship tracking, making it a highly interactive career ecosystem. The state government believes this initiative will significantly reduce barriers such as lack of awareness, complicated procedures, and limited access to guidance.

Officials further noted that the platform is aligned with Maharashtra’s broader digital transformation agenda, which includes strengthening AI adoption across governance, education, agriculture, and welfare services. The launch of MahaChatur is seen as part of a wider strategy to position the state as a leader in AI-driven public service delivery.

Experts have welcomed the initiative, stating that AI-based career platforms can play a crucial role in addressing India’s skill gap challenge, especially by connecting young job seekers with industry-relevant opportunities in real time. With the introduction of MahaChatur AI Chatbot, Maharashtra has taken a significant step toward building a digitally empowered workforce ecosystem, where technology becomes a direct bridge between education, skills, and employment opportunities.
