Piyush Goyal Calls for Strict Action Against Delays, Says Reduced Power Tariffs to Save ₹11–12 Crore

Date:

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Wednesday highlighted the government’s efforts to reduce electricity tariffs and stressed the need for strict accountability in public projects. Speaking at an event in Mumbai, Goyal said he was pleased that power tariffs had been “significantly reduced,” offering a financial benefit of ₹11 to 12 crore.

The minister urged authorities to use all available legal and contractual provisions to act against contractors and architects responsible for project delays. “I suggest using every single provision to ensure that contractors and architects responsible for delays at work are penalised,” he said, emphasising that the government aims to set a new benchmark of zero delays in development works.

Goyal also addressed the issue of corruption, calling it a “two-way process.” He noted that corruption cannot thrive unless there are individuals enabling it on both ends. “If someone is taking a bribe, there is someone encouraging it,” he said. He urged citizens and officials alike to be vocal when they encounter wrongdoing rather than staying silent, stressing that public participation is essential for establishing a corruption-free system.

His remarks come at a time when the government is pushing for faster execution of infrastructure projects and enhanced transparency across departments.
