Khalistani Extremism Discussed During PM Modi–UK PM Keir Starmer Meeting, Says Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri

Date:

Mumbai: The issue of Khalistani extremism was among the key topics discussed during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Tuesday.

Addressing the media, Misri stated that PM Modi strongly emphasized that radicalism and violent extremism have no place in democratic societies and must not be allowed to exploit the freedoms provided by such systems. “The Khalistani extremist issue was discussed during the meeting held today between PM Modi and PM Starmer. The Prime Minister emphasised that radicalism and violent extremism had no space in democratic societies and should not be allowed to use or abuse the freedoms provided by societies,” Misri said.

He added that both leaders recognized the importance of tackling such challenges within the framework of law and agreed on the need for coordinated efforts to counter extremist activities. “There was a need to move against them in the legal framework available on both sides,” Misri noted.

The discussion comes at a time when India has repeatedly raised concerns over the activities of Khalistani groups operating from overseas, urging partner nations to take strict action against those promoting separatism and violence.

The meeting between PM Modi and PM Starmer also covered a wide range of bilateral and global issues, including trade, investment, and strategic cooperation, underscoring the growing partnership between India and the United Kingdom.
