Only Commercial LPG Prices Hiked, Domestic Cylinder Rates Unchanged: Govt Clarifies

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday clarified that only commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased, while domestic LPG prices remain unchanged across the country.

Commercial LPG Prices Market-Linked

In an official statement shared on X, the ministry said that commercial LPG cylinders, used by industries and hotels, are market-driven and revised monthly.

  • Commercial LPG accounts for less than 10% of total LPG consumption in India
  • Prices are not regulated and depend on market trends

Domestic LPG Prices Remain Stable

The government assured that domestic consumers continue to receive full protection:

  • 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder price remains unchanged at ₹913
  • Under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), subsidised cylinders for गरीब households continue at ₹613

The ministry emphasized that this aligns with the commitment of Narendra Modi to shield citizens from rising global fuel prices.

Oil Companies Bearing Heavy Losses

At current rates:

  • Public sector oil marketing companies are incurring a loss of ₹380 per cylinder
  • Total losses are projected to reach ₹40,484 crore by the end of May 2026

The statement also noted that last year:

  • Total losses stood at ₹60,000 crore
  • Shared equally between oil PSUs and the Government of India

This financial support helped protect consumers from high international LPG prices.

India Among Lowest LPG Prices Globally

The ministry highlighted that India’s domestic LPG prices are among the lowest globally:

  • Pakistan: ₹1,046 per cylinder
  • Sri Lanka: ₹1,242 per cylinder
  • Nepal: ₹1,208 per cylinder

Petrol and Diesel Prices Stable

The government also clarified that regular fuel prices remain unchanged:

  • Petrol: ₹94.77 per litre (Delhi)
  • Diesel: ₹87.67 per litre (Delhi)
