Lakshmipriya Devi’s ‘Boong’ Wins Best Children’s & Family Film at BAFTA Film Awards 2026

Mumbai: Filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi’s film Boong has won the Best Children’s & Family Film award at the BAFTA Film Awards 2026, marking a proud moment for Indian cinema on the global stage.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) congratulated Lakshmipriya Devi and the entire Boong team for the prestigious international recognition.

A Milestone for Indian Cinema

The award highlights the growing global appreciation for India’s diverse and meaningful storytelling traditions. It also reflects the strength of India’s film development and festival ecosystem, which supported the film’s journey from concept to international acclaim.

From Film Bazaar to Global Recognition

Boong was developed in 2023 under the Work in Progress Lab and Film Bazaar Recommends segment at Film Bazaar — an initiative aimed at nurturing promising filmmakers and connecting them with the global film industry.

The film was later showcased at the 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 2024, where it was selected in the Best Debut Director category, further cementing its critical acclaim.

Government Reaffirms Support for Indian Filmmakers

The Government of India and NFDC reiterated their commitment to strengthening platforms such as Film Bazaar and IFFI, which empower filmmakers, promote creative excellence, and expand global reach for Indian cinema.

With Boong’s win at BAFTA 2026, Indian children’s and family cinema has gained significant international recognition, reinforcing India’s growing influence in world cinema.
