Mumbai to Get Futuristic Pod Taxi System for BKC Commuters

Mumbai, April 7, 2026 – Mumbai is set to revolutionize urban commuting with the launch of a driverless Pod Taxi system, designed to serve the city’s bustling Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). With an estimated budget of ₹1,017 crore, the project aims to transform daily travel for approximately four to six lakh commuters.

What Is the Pod Taxi System?

The Pod Taxi system is a personal rapid transit (PRT) solution, featuring small, battery-operated, driverless pods running on dedicated elevated tracks. Each pod can accommodate up to six passengers and offers point-to-point travel, allowing commuters to bypass traditional traffic congestion.

Route length: 8.8 km
Stations: 38, connecting key residential hubs with BKC offices
Provides last-mile connectivity from suburban train stations to workplaces
Designed to cut travel time and improve commuting efficiency in one of Mumbai’s busiest business districts
