Phoenix Badminton Super League 2026 Returns with Expanded Format and 10 Lakh Prize Money

Date:

Mumbai: The Phoenix Badminton Super League (BSL) 2026 is set to take place on May 9 and May 10, 2026, in Mumbai, promising two days of high-intensity badminton action featuring some of the most promising talents from across Maharashtra. The tournament will be hosted at the Navi Mumbai Sports Association (NMSA), Vashi, and will offer a total prize purse of ₹10 lakh, making it one of the most lucrative state-level badminton events in the region.

Organised under the guidance of the Maharashtra Badminton Association, the Phoenix BSL has quickly emerged as a unique franchise-based badminton league aimed at promoting grassroots talent while providing a professional competitive structure. The 2026 edition is expected to be bigger and more competitive than ever before, with enhanced participation from players and strong corporate backing.

The league operates on a franchise model, where teams are owned and supported by various corporate groups and developers. This year’s participating franchises include Metro Group, Satyam Developers, DOMS, Priyanka Regency, Krasny Defence, NDT Technologies, and Phoenix Infracon Solutions, which also serves as the title sponsor of the tournament.

A key feature of the league is its player auction system, which allows franchises to bid for players and form balanced teams. This format has created significant interest among emerging badminton players in the state, offering them an opportunity to compete in a structured and high-visibility environment. The auction has helped bring together a diverse pool of talent, ensuring competitive matches throughout the tournament.

The initiative is being led by former badminton player Shrishail Mitkari, who has played a pivotal role in conceptualising and developing the league. His vision for the Phoenix BSL is to create a sustainable platform that nurtures young athletes while integrating corporate involvement in sports development.

In its previous edition, the league featured 80 top-level players and 10 franchise teams, along with strong audience engagement both at the venue and through digital streaming platforms. The success of the inaugural season has encouraged organisers to expand the scale and reach of the 2026 edition.

Officials associated with the league stated that the franchise-based structure is designed to bridge the gap between local-level tournaments and professional national circuits. By combining competitive exposure with financial incentives, the league aims to motivate players to elevate their performance and pursue badminton as a professional career.

The ₹10 lakh prize money will be awarded to top-performing teams and standout players across categories, further raising the competitive stakes of the tournament. In addition to financial rewards, participants will benefit from increased visibility and opportunities to be scouted for higher-level competitions.

With rising corporate interest, growing player participation, and increasing fan engagement, the Phoenix Badminton Super League is steadily establishing itself as an important fixture in Maharashtra’s sporting calendar. The upcoming 2026 edition is expected to attract badminton enthusiasts, sports professionals, and talent scouts from across the region.

As Mumbai prepares to host the event, anticipation is building for two days of fast-paced rallies, emerging champions, and a celebration of badminton at the grassroots level.
