Mumbai: BJP leader Ram Kadam on Sunday strongly criticised Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his recent allegations against the Election Commission (EC), accusing him of undermining a key democratic institution.
Kadam questioned why Gandhi had not presented any concrete evidence to the EC if his claims were genuine. “If Rahul Gandhi has any foolproof information, why is he not sharing that with the Election Commission instead of only speaking in front of the media?” he asked.
The BJP leader pointed out that the courts have, on multiple occasions, reprimanded Gandhi for making unsubstantiated remarks. “Despite this, they are deliberately peddling lies among people,” Kadam alleged.
He further said that attempting to discredit the EC amounts to attacking a parliamentary institution and, by extension, India’s democracy. “When someone deliberately attempts to do this, it is called urban naxalism. You are indirectly trying to support them,” Kadam claimed, in a sharp escalation of rhetoric.
The comments come amid an ongoing war of words between the BJP and Congress over electoral integrity, with both parties accusing each other of attempting to influence public perception about India’s democratic processes.
