The Central Government has approved the establishment of seven mega textile parks under the PM MITRA Scheme to boost the country’s textile sector.
These parks will be set up in the following states:
- Tamil Nadu (Virudhunagar)
- Telangana (Warangal)
- Gujarat (Navsari)
- Karnataka (Kalaburagi)
- Madhya Pradesh (Dhar)
- Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow)
- Maharashtra (Amravati)
No New Parks Under Current PM MITRA Plan
The government clarified that no additional textile parks are currently proposed under the existing PM MITRA scheme.
However, expansion plans are already in motion through new policy initiatives.
Budget 2026 Announces New Textile Parks Under Challenge Mode
In the Union Budget 2026-27, the government announced plans to set up new mega textile parks under the “challenge mode” approach.
Discussions with states and stakeholders have already begun to fast-track the implementation of this initiative and expand textile infrastructure nationwide.
Support for Handloom Sector and Artisans
The government is also implementing multiple schemes to strengthen the handloom sector and support artisans across India.
Key initiatives include:
- National Handloom Development Programme
- Raw Material Supply Scheme
Under these schemes, artisans receive:
- Raw materials at subsidized rates
- Modern tools and machinery
- Solar lighting support
- Workshop infrastructure
- Design and technical assistance
- Financial aid for marketing
They also benefit from affordable loans and social security coverage.
Boost to Handicraft Sector Through Cluster Development
To promote handicrafts, the government has rolled out:
- National Handicraft Development Programme
- Cluster Development Schemes
These initiatives provide artisans with training, branding, marketing support, and technical assistance, helping them scale their businesses and access wider markets.
Integrated Textiles Programme to Drive Growth and Jobs
The Union Budget 2026 also introduced the Integrated Textiles Programme, which includes the Textile Expansion and Employment Mission (TEEM).
This initiative aims to modernize traditional textile clusters and generate employment opportunities, further strengthening India’s textile ecosystem.
