A Knockout Show by India: India’s U-23 Women’s Squad Secures Nine Medals at Asian Meet

Following impressive quarter-final performances at the Asian Under-19 and Under-23 Boxing Championships in Jakarta on Wednesday, India’s Under-23 women boxers secured nine medals. All nine Indian boxers who reached the semi-finals have guaranteed themselves a spot on the podium.

Representing India, Tanu (51 kg) delivered a stellar performance in the afternoon session, defeating Thailand’s Kewalin Norasing 5-0. Nisha (54 kg) also displayed excellent form, beating Kazakhstan’s Aliaksar Symbat by a unanimous 5-0 decision. The 48kg category saw a setback for India as Nidhi narrowly missed out on a semifinal spot after losing 3:2 on a split decision against Kazakhstan’s Gulnaz Buribayeva in a closely fought contest.

India’s impressive performance continued in the evening session as well. Prachi (57 kg) secured a victory in the first round via RSC (Referee Stops Contest) against Korea’s Yejin Oh. Nikita Chand (60 kg) also registered a brilliant win, defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chen-Hsuan Yeh via an RSC decision in the third round.

Kajal (65 kg) rounded off the evening’s winning streak for India by defeating Japan’s Arinda Akimoto via a 4:1 split decision in a hard-fought contest.

The nine Indian boxers who have secured a spot in the semi-finals are Tanu (51kg), Nisha (54kg), Prachi (57kg), Nikita Chand (60kg), Kajal (65kg), Shivani (70kg), Muskan (75kg), Naina (80kg), and Priyanka (+80kg). By reaching the semi-finals, India has bolstered its medal tally in the championship and will now aim to convert these podium finishes into gold and silver medals in the remaining bouts.
