One Dead, Three Injured After Metro Structure Mishap in Mumbai; Probe Ordered

Date:

Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde on Monday termed the metro-related accident in the city as a case of “serious negligence” after a structural component reportedly fell at a construction site, resulting in one fatality and injuries to three others.

Speaking from the site, Tawde said she had arrived to assess the situation and would consult the local MLA and officials to ascertain the sequence of events. According to her statement, a parapet wall or girder had been installed at the location the previous night. She questioned whether safety norms were properly followed and whether traffic movement beneath the structure had been adequately regulated during the work.

The injured were immediately shifted to hospital, where one person succumbed to injuries. Two others remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment in the ICU, while another sustained injuries.

Tawde alleged negligence on the part of the concerned contractor and officials associated with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). She stated that the site engineer, contractor, and consultant would be held accountable. The Mayor confirmed that the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been informed and is closely monitoring developments.

A third-party audit has been ordered to examine the circumstances leading to the incident. Tawde also said that a formal case will be registered and assured that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.

Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation as safety protocols at the construction site come under scrutiny.
