Mumbai to Host Inaugural WAVE Summit; India’s First Creative Tech Institute Announced

Date:

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a landmark series of developments aimed at transforming Mumbai into a global powerhouse in the audiovisual and creative sectors. Speaking to the media, the CM revealed that Mumbai will host the first-ever WAVE Summit this May, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to attend the event.

“The WAVE Summit will be a pivotal moment for India to lead in the technical and creative aspects of the audiovisual industry,” Fadnavis stated. “This is more than a summit; it’s a signal that India, and especially Mumbai, is ready to take center stage in global entertainment.”

In a major boost to the sector, Mumbai will also become home to the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) — the country’s first dedicated institute for creative technologies. Fadnavis thanked IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for his support in establishing this visionary institution.

To further accelerate the growth of creative infrastructure, the Information & Broadcasting Ministry has offered over 240 acres of land in Malad, Mumbai. This space will be developed into world-class facilities, including a new film city and other production-related infrastructure.

“Mumbai already has a natural atmosphere that nurtures filmmaking and creative arts like nowhere else,” Fadnavis added. “Now, with these developments, we aim to make Mumbai not just India’s entertainment capital, but the entertainment capital of the world.”

The initiatives will be executed through a collaborative effort between the central and Maharashtra governments, opening the doors for both public and private players to contribute to the vision.

With these transformative moves, Mumbai is poised to redefine its global status in the entertainment and creative industries.
