Triple Talaq Law: A Beacon of Hope, says PM Modi in Rajasthan

Date:

Rajasthan, India – In a recent public address in Rajasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shed light on the transformative impact of the triple talaq law, asserting that it has been a game-changer for Muslim women across the nation.

“Triple talaq was a threat to the lives of my Muslim mothers and sisters,” PM Modi stated, emphasizing the detrimental effects of the practice. He further added, “The law on triple talaq is helping our Muslim sisters.”

Triple talaq, a form of instant divorce used in some sects of Islam, allows a man to divorce his wife by simply stating the word ‘talaq’ three times. This practice has been widely criticized for its discriminatory nature against women.

PM Modi highlighted that the legislation has not only provided protection to the women who were at risk due to this practice but has also ensured the security of every Muslim family. “Modi has not only protected you but Modi has protected every Muslim family,” he affirmed.

The Indian Parliament passed the law criminalizing triple talaq in July 2019, making it a punishable offense. This landmark legislation was celebrated as a major stride towards gender equality and the protection of women’s rights.

PM Modi’s remarks come amidst ongoing national conversations around women’s rights and safety. His comments underscore the government’s dedication to ensuring the protection of women’s rights, regardless of their religious affiliations.

The Prime Minister’s focus on the positive influence of the triple talaq law underscores the government’s continuous efforts to foster gender equality and empower women in the country.
