Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Condemns Abu Azmi’s Statement on Aurangzeb, Calls for Suspension

Date:

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has strongly criticized Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi over his recent remarks on Aurangzeb, stating that such comments will not be tolerated. Shinde asserted that Azmi’s statement has hurt public sentiment and will have serious consequences.

“We have condemned his statement. His statement will cost him, and the people of Maharashtra will not forgive him,” Shinde said. He further emphasized that the ruling coalition has demanded Azmi’s suspension from the legislative assembly. “He will be suspended; we have put forth our demand to suspend him (from the House),” he added.

Abu Azmi’s remarks have sparked a political storm in Maharashtra, with leaders from various parties condemning his stance. Many have accused him of glorifying a historical figure whose legacy remains a contentious issue in the state. The opposition BJP and Shinde-led Shiv Sena have taken a strong stand, arguing that such statements create unnecessary controversy and hurt the sentiments of the people.

The call for Azmi’s suspension is expected to escalate political tensions in the state assembly. With elections approaching, the controversy has further intensified the debate on historical narratives and their impact on contemporary politics in Maharashtra.

The state government’s next course of action on Azmi’s suspension remains to be seen, but political analysts predict that the issue will continue to dominate the political discourse in the coming days.
