Union Minister Ramdas Athawale Comments on Kunal Kamra Row

Date:

Mumbai: In response to the ongoing controversy surrounding comedian Kunal Kamra’s recent remarks, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has voiced his disapproval of Kamra’s actions, particularly in relation to his criticism of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Athawale stated, “If he is an artist, he should not sing songs to criticise anyone. He should not get into such issues. It is not right to use such language.” He emphasized that artists, while free to express themselves, should maintain a level of decorum and avoid using derogatory language in their performances.

Referring to Kamra’s comments about Shinde, Athawale suggested that if Kamra is labeling Shinde a “traitor,” he should also direct the same criticism towards Uddhav Thackeray, as the latter had similarly “betrayed” the BJP. He further added, “If he wants to be a good artist, he should not sing such songs.”

The remarks come amid a growing debate on Kamra’s controversial content, which has drawn criticism from various political leaders. Kamra, known for his outspoken style, has faced significant backlash over his remarks about political figures, sparking discussions about freedom of speech and the responsibilities of public personalities.
