Shiv Sena Leader Shaina NC Supports Waqf Amendment Bill, Highlights Need for Transparency and Accountability

Date:

Mumbai – Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC voiced her support for the Waqf Amendment Bill, set to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today, emphasizing the need for reform and transparency in the management of Waqf properties. In her remarks, NC pointed out the inefficiencies and challenges plaguing the existing Waqf system, calling for streamlined processes to address long-standing issues such as encroachment, mismanagement, and ownership disputes.

“What is the role of the Waqf Board? Obviously, it is to do good work for society at large, but you look at the kind of litigations and mismanagement,” Shaina NC said, referring to the persistent problems faced by the Waqf Board over the years. She highlighted how previous versions of the Waqf Act, including the 1995 Act and the 2013 amendment, have been criticized for their inefficiency, which has led to numerous issues like encroachment on Waqf properties, unresolved ownership disputes, and delays in registration and surveys.

NC underscored that the purpose of introducing the Waqf Amendment Bill is to address these issues by bringing in greater transparency and accountability. “The idea of tabling this bill in Parliament is to bring streamlined processes of transparency and accountability,” she said, pointing out that the bill’s focus on reform is aimed at improving the functioning of the Waqf Board and ensuring that its resources are used effectively for the benefit of the community.

Her comments align with the broader view that the bill is a much-needed step towards revamping the Waqf system, ensuring that it functions efficiently, and benefits the people it is intended to serve.
