Govt Protects Indian Steel Industry from Unfair Dumping, Ensures Balance for MSMEs – Piyush Goyal

Date:

Mumbai, Maharashtra | Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday reaffirmed the Modi government’s commitment to safeguarding Indian industries, particularly the steel sector, against unfair global trade practices. He stated that the Centre remains vigilant and proactive, ensuring protection without compromising the needs of Indian consumers and exporters.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is always vigilant and proactive to support Indian industry against unfair trading practices,” said Goyal. Highlighting a recent development, he explained that a quasi-judicial investigation conducted by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) detected irrationally low-priced steel dumping into the Indian market.

Goyal emphasized that corrective action was taken to protect the domestic steel industry from being harmed by such dumping, which can undercut fair pricing and destabilize local manufacturers. However, he also noted that the government maintained a careful balance by ensuring that exporters and the MSME sector continue to access steel at competitive international prices.

“This approach not only protects Indian manufacturers but also sustains the global competitiveness of our MSMEs,” Goyal said. The statement comes as part of broader efforts to promote self-reliance and economic resilience under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
