PM Modi Sets Bold Maritime Target as ₹34,200 Crore Projects Inaugurated in Bhavnagar

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated projects worth ₹34,200 crore in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, aimed at transforming India’s maritime sector into a global powerhouse.

Modi emphasised that India already accounts for 10% of global maritime trade, and by 2047, this figure should be tripled to ensure India emerges as a leading global hub for shipping and logistics. He outlined the roadmap involving modern ports, world-class shipyards, private sector participation, and coastal connectivity reforms.

Blaming earlier governments for neglecting shipbuilding, Modi said India is now moving ahead with confidence under Atmanirbhar Bharat and Amrit Kaal. The projects include investments in industrial corridors, port upgrades, and eco-friendly maritime solutions, creating opportunities for both industry and citizens.

The Prime Minister underlined that the reforms are not just for Gujarat but for the entire country, as maritime strength directly boosts trade, exports, and GDP growth. He called the Bhavnagar initiatives a stepping stone in India’s journey towards becoming a $5 trillion economy.
