Bengaluru–Mumbai Premium Train Service to Begin Soon, Says Ashwini Vaishnaw

Date:

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday announced that a premium train service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai will commence soon, marking a significant step towards enhancing long-distance rail connectivity between two of India’s major metropolitan centres.

Speaking to the media, Vaishnaw said the upcoming service is part of Indian Railways’ continued efforts to modernise passenger travel and introduce faster, more comfortable options on high-demand routes. He noted that Bengaluru and Mumbai serve as critical economic and commercial hubs, with strong linkages in technology, finance, manufacturing, and trade, leading to sustained passenger demand between the two cities.

The Railway Minister stated that the premium train will focus on improved passenger experience, with upgraded amenities and better onboard services. While specific details related to travel time, fares, and train configuration have not yet been disclosed, officials indicated that the service would be aligned with the Railways’ broader push towards premium and semi-high-speed train categories.

The announcement comes at a time when Indian Railways is undertaking large-scale infrastructure upgrades, including track modernisation, station redevelopment, and capacity expansion. Vaishnaw emphasised that the objective is to balance speed, safety, and comfort while ensuring operational efficiency across the network.

The Bengaluru–Mumbai rail corridor is among the busiest in the country, catering to business travellers, professionals, and tourists. The introduction of a premium service is expected to provide an additional travel option, ease pressure on existing trains, and improve overall connectivity on the route.

The Ministry of Railways is expected to release further details regarding the launch schedule and operational features of the service in the coming days.
