Government Assures Uninterrupted Fuel Supply Amid West Asia Tensions, Urges Public to Avoid Panic Buying

Date:

The Government of India has assured citizens that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and taking proactive steps to ensure stability in key sectors, including energy security and maritime operations. The government emphasized that its primary focus remains on maintaining uninterrupted energy supplies, safeguarding shipping routes, and providing necessary assistance to Indian nationals in the region.

India Strengthens Preparedness Amid Hormuz Concerns

In an official statement released on Sunday, the Centre addressed concerns regarding the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. The government confirmed that comprehensive measures are being implemented to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products across the country.

Adequate Crude Oil and Refinery Operations

According to the statement:

  • All refineries in India are operating at full capacity.
  • There is sufficient availability of crude oil reserves.
  • Petrol and diesel stocks remain adequate nationwide.
  • Domestic production of LPG has been increased to meet household demand.

Retail Fuel Supply Remains Stable

The government reassured that:

  • All fuel retail outlets across the country are functioning normally.
  • Adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available at all petrol pumps.

To further support domestic supply and control prices:

  • Excise duty on petrol and diesel has been reduced by ₹10 per litre.
  • Export duty of ₹21.5 per litre has been imposed on diesel.
  • Export duty of ₹29.5 per litre has been levied on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).

Panic Buying Triggered by Rumours

Despite adequate supply, reports of panic buying have emerged in some regions due to misinformation and rumours. This has led to unusually high sales and crowding at select fuel stations in certain states.

The government clarified that these concerns are unfounded and reiterated that there is no shortage of fuel in the country.

Government Advisory: Avoid Hoarding, Trust Official Sources

In its advisory, the government urged citizens not to fall prey to rumours or engage in panic buying.

“We are making every possible effort to ensure the availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary rush for fuel and rely only on official sources for accurate information,” the statement said.

Call for Energy Conservation

In light of the current geopolitical situation, the government has also appealed to citizens to adopt energy conservation practices in their daily lives to support national energy security.
