PV Sindhu Back in Top 10 After Nearly Three Years, Starts Indonesia Open on Winning Note

Returning to the top 10 in the world rankings, PV Sindhu began her Indonesia Open 2026 campaign with a 25-23, 21-16 win over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan at the Istora Senayan Stadium in Indonesia on Tuesday.

Indian pair Hariharan Amsakarunan and MR Arjun also reached the next round. They easily beat the Malaysian duo of former Olympic medalist Tan Wee Kiong and Noor Mohamad Azrian in straight games.

India’s star shuttler Sindhu, who broke into the world’s top 10 for the first time since 2023, began her campaign with an 11th consecutive win over the Thai player. Sindhu now leads 21-1 in their matches against the top seed Busanan.

Next, they will play the winner of the match between top-seeded South Korean An Se Young and Turkey’s Neslihan Erin. Later, Hariharan and Arjun easily beat the experienced Malaysian pair (21-18) and (21-10) in just 33 minutes.

Lakshya Sen lost in two straight games to the local player, Alwi Farhan. Farhan had pulled off a massive upset by beating the world No. 1, Shi Yu Qi, at the Singapore Open.
