Mumbai — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has responded to the controversy involving Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who allegedly slapped a canteen staff member over poor food quality. Fadnavis stated that while no formal complaint is needed, the police must initiate an inquiry into the incident.
“There is no need to file any complaint to take action against Sanjay Gaikwad. The police should inquire into the matter,” Fadnavis said, addressing media questions on the issue.
The incident, which occurred at a government canteen, sparked public outrage after a video surfaced showing the MLA physically assaulting the staff member. CM Fadnavis’s statement signals that the state government expects law enforcement to take suo motu cognizance of the matter and proceed accordingly.
