Jogeshwari Railway Terminus Nears Completion: A Game-Changer for Mumbai’s Rail Network

Date:

Mumbai, India — The new railway terminus at Jogeshwari is set to transform the rail infrastructure in Mumbai, with construction on track for completion by the end of the current financial year. With over 70% of the work already finished, the project, which has an estimated budget of ₹68.99 crore, is gearing up to accommodate 12 pairs of Mail and Express trains daily.

The addition of the Jogeshwari terminus is anticipated to significantly reduce congestion at key Western Railway (WR) terminals, including Mumbai Central, Dadar, and Bandra. An official from WR highlighted that the new facility will facilitate smoother long-distance train operations, greatly enhancing connectivity in and around Mumbai.

Designed to feature an island platform capable of servicing 24-coach trains, the terminus will also include two berthing lines and a Power Run Down line for efficient train movements. A watering facility will be available to ensure trains are maintained adequately. The island platform design promotes easy access for passengers, making travel more convenient.

Significant construction milestones have already been achieved. A labor shed has been completed, and work is ongoing on the cover shed, service building, platform, and station structure. Track laying is anticipated to begin soon, and the terminus will seamlessly connect with suburban train services and Metro Lines 7 and 6.

As the Jogeshwari railway terminus moves closer to completion, it is expected to play a crucial role in improving rail travel for thousands of commuters in Mumbai. This new addition marks an important step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance public transportation and alleviate congestion.
