PM Modi Remembers Historic Dandi March

In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the significance of the Dandi March.

“The Dandi March began on this day in 1930. We respectfully remember all the great personalities involved,” the Prime Minister said.

The Dandi March is regarded as one of the most powerful acts of non-violent protest against British colonial rule in India.

Vice President Highlights Spirit of Self-Reliance

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and the participants of the historic movement.

He said the Dandi Satyagraha, launched in 1930 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, marked a defining moment in India’s freedom movement and inspired a nationwide spirit of self-reliance through the ideals of Satya (truth) and Ahimsa (non-violence).

Radhakrishnan added that the spirit of self-reliance inspired by the movement continues to guide India’s progress as the country works towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat and achieving the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

The Historic Salt March of 1930

The Salt March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha or Dandi March, was a major act of non-violent civil disobedience against British colonial rule.

On March 12, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi began the historic march from the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi.

The 24-day march was organised to protest against the heavy salt tax imposed by the British government, which restricted Indians from producing or selling salt independently.

The movement later triggered the nationwide Civil Disobedience Movement, mobilising millions of Indians against colonial rule and strengthening the fight for independence.
