Rishi Sunak Says India Well Positioned to Lead in Artificial Intelligence at India AI Impact Summit

New Delhi: Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said that India is strongly positioned to emerge as a global leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and demonstrate its large-scale societal applications.

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, Sunak highlighted the optimism surrounding AI adoption in India, contrasting it with the climate of caution and concern seen in parts of the West.

India’s Optimism Around AI

Addressing a session at the summit, Sunak noted that India shows “immense confidence and optimism” regarding AI innovation and its transformative potential. He emphasized that technological leadership is not determined solely by inventing new technologies, but also by how effectively they are deployed across society.

“Leadership in technology depends not just on invention, but on how it is implemented and integrated into everyday life,” he said.

India Ranks Third in Global AI Vibrancy Report

Sunak referred to the Stanford Global AI Vibrancy Report 2025, which ranked India third globally in terms of AI competitiveness and ecosystem vitality. The report reflects India’s rapid progress in AI research, startup growth, talent development, and policy support.

India Hosting Global AI Leaders

India is hosting the AI Impact Summit from February 16 to 20 in New Delhi, bringing together world leaders, technology experts, innovators, and policymakers to discuss the future of Artificial Intelligence.

The summit aims to position India as a key player in shaping global AI governance, innovation, and inclusive technology growth. With strong government backing, a growing startup ecosystem, and increasing global recognition, India continues to strengthen its standing as an emerging powerhouse in the AI sector.
