Unique Identification Authority of India Conducts Nationwide Aadhaar Biometric Update Drive, Benefits 1.2 Crore School Children

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a nationwide special campaign to promote Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for school children. Under this mission-mode initiative, services were provided in over 1,03,000 schools across the country, enabling nearly 1.2 crore (12 million) students to complete their Aadhaar biometric updates within their school premises.

Biometric Updates Completed in School Campuses

The campaign is being implemented in coordination with UIDAI’s regional and state offices, state and Union Territory education departments, district administrations, and schools. Through this initiative, children were offered a simple and convenient facility to update their Aadhaar biometrics directly at their schools.

Integration with UDISE+ Strengthens Monitoring

UIDAI began the mission-mode MBU drive for school students in September 2025 following successful technical integration with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) application of the Department of School Education & Literacy.

The integration enabled accurate tracking of students whose biometric updates were pending. Based on this data, special camps were organized in schools to ensure timely completion of the process.

Over 4,000 Machines Deployed Nationwide

To efficiently implement the drive, more than 4,000 biometric update machines have been deployed across India. UIDAI has initiated steps to further increase the number of machines to accelerate the campaign and cover more beneficiaries.

Helps in Exams and Government Schemes

Updated Aadhaar biometric details help students seamlessly access government schemes, scholarships, and welfare benefits. It also simplifies registration and authentication processes for competitive and university entrance examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.

UIDAI has consistently urged parents and guardians to ensure timely biometric updates for their children to avoid inconvenience in future services.

Free Biometric Update for 7–15 Age Group

The mission-mode MBU campaign has been underway for the past six months. UIDAI has made Aadhaar biometric updates free of cost for children aged 7 to 15 years for a one-year period starting October 1, 2025.

In addition to school camps, children can complete their biometric updates at any Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra across the country.

Strengthening Digital Identity Infrastructure

The large-scale biometric update campaign reflects UIDAI’s commitment to strengthening India’s digital identity framework and ensuring that students have uninterrupted access to education-related services and government benefits.
