Indian Railways Announces Major Fare Reduction for Passenger Trains

Date:

Mumbai – In a move that is set to bring significant relief to travellers, the Indian Railways has announced a substantial reduction in the fares of Passenger trains. The ticket prices are expected to decrease by 40 to 50 percent.

The decision comes after the availability of Passenger train tickets at the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS). Previously, the lowest fare for Passenger and Express trains was pegged at Rs. 30. However, following this adjustment, which is now applicable only to Passenger trains, the fare has been slashed to Rs. 10. Furthermore, these tickets are now readily available on the UTS app.

The COVID-19 lockdown had led to the conversion of Passenger and MEMU trains into express trains, which resulted in a hike in fares. However, this recent decision is expected to revert the fares for short-distance trains proportionately to their previous rates. This move is anticipated to offer considerable relief to daily commuters, especially those travelling short distances.

The Indian Railways’ decision to reduce the fares is a significant step towards making travel more affordable for the common man. It is also expected to encourage more people to opt for train travel, thereby promoting public transport.

This move is a part of the Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance passenger convenience and make train travel more accessible to everyone. The reduction in fares is expected to come into effect immediately, bringing a big sigh of relief for millions of travelers across the country.
