Allegations of Voter Fraud Surface in Maharashtra Ahead of Assembly Elections

Date:

Maharashtra BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule has stirred controversy with claims of widespread voter fraud in the state, particularly in Dhule and Malegaon Assembly constituencies. Bawankule alleges that over 3000 entries exist where the same voter ID number and photo are duplicated in both Dhule and Malegaon.

Addressing the media, Bawankule questioned the efficacy of the Election Commission’s digitalization efforts, expressing disbelief that such discrepancies went unnoticed. “The same individuals could potentially cast votes in both constituencies,” he asserted, hinting at a systemic issue affecting as many as 30-40 Assembly constituencies across Maharashtra.

Accompanied by strong accusations, Bawankule emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the BJP’s immediate action. “We have lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission today. We demand strict action against officials involved in these irregularities,” he declared, insinuating a larger conspiracy at play. “This particularly affects the votes of one specific community,” he added, without specifying further.

The allegations come at a critical juncture, mere months before Maharashtra heads into Assembly elections. The BJP’s assertions have sparked intense debate, with opposition parties and civil society demanding transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

The Election Commission is yet to respond to these allegations. As the situation unfolds, scrutiny over electoral integrity in Maharashtra intensifies, raising pertinent questions about the safeguards and oversight mechanisms in place.
