Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis Critiques NCP-SCP’s Long March, Calls for Reflection on Gandhi’s Legacy

Date:

During the NCP-SCP’s long march today, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis delivered a pointed critique aimed at the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Shiv Sena (SCP), referencing Mahatma Gandhi’s views on political parties post-independence.

In his remarks, Fadnavis emphasized, “If they believe in Gandhi ji, they should implement the suggestion given by him. He had clearly said that now that we have attained independence, the utility of Congress is over and it should be dissolved; otherwise, it would become an obstacle to the progress of the country.” He urged the parties to reflect on Gandhi’s vision for a united and progressive India.

Fadnavis’s comments came as the NCP-SCP led their long march to advocate for various social and economic issues facing the state. The Deputy CM argued that adhering to Gandhi’s principles would require these parties to reconsider their role in contemporary politics. “If they follow this suggestion of Gandhi ji, I think they would then truly have the right to speak on Gandhi ji,” he stated, suggesting that true adherence to Gandhi’s ideals would necessitate significant introspection and reform.

The Deputy CM’s statements highlight the ongoing political tensions in Maharashtra, where historical legacies and modern political realities often intersect. As the NCP-SCP march through Mumbai, Fadnavis’s remarks serve as a reminder of the ideological divides that continue to shape the state’s political landscape. The conversation surrounding Gandhi’s relevance in today’s politics remains crucial, as various parties grapple with their identities and roles in a rapidly changing society.
