BJP Leader Kirit Somaiya Supports Maharashtra’s Committee Against Love Jihad, Criticizes Sanjay Raut and Alleged Unlawful Mosque Practices

Date:

BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has expressed strong support for the Maharashtra government’s decision to form a committee to investigate and address issues related to “love jihad,” claiming that such a law is necessary to prevent the exploitation of young girls in the state. Somaiya stated that this law would help curb the growing concerns of forced conversions and religious exploitation.

In his comments, Somaiya emphasized, “This type of law is necessary to stop the ongoing bullying in Maharashtra because young girls are being exploited.” He further made controversial remarks regarding Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, stating, “Sanjay Raut has also been converted. He has started wearing green garbs with Uddhav Thackeray…”

Somaiya also raised concerns over loudspeakers being used in mosques without permission, claiming that during a recent visit to Ghatkopar, he observed that several mosques were operating loudspeakers illegally. “I went to Ghatkopar. There were loudspeakers on eight mosques, and none of them had permission for this,” Somaiya alleged, calling it an issue of law and order.

The statements have stirred political controversy, as the debate around “love jihad” laws and religious practices continues to be a sensitive subject in Maharashtra. The Maharashtra government’s move to form the committee is seen as a response to growing demands from right-wing groups, while opposition parties are likely to view it as divisive.

As political tensions rise, the situation highlights the ongoing cultural and religious debates within the state, with both sides strongly defending their positions on law, order, and religious freedom.
