BJP MP Jagdambika Pal Criticizes West Bengal Government Over Border Fencing and Illegal Immigration

Date:

BJP Member of Parliament Jagdambika Pal has strongly criticized the West Bengal government for its refusal to cooperate on the issue of border fencing along the India-Bangladesh border. Pal’s comments came in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement in the Lok Sabha, where he revealed that the central government had repeatedly urged the West Bengal government to provide land for fencing the 450 km stretch of the border.

“Union Home Minister Amit Shah has explicitly said in the Lok Sabha that he has urged the West Bengal government almost 10 times to give 450km of land for border fencing. But the state government has not done that so far. This is why we have illegal immigrants across the country… They enter through West Bengal, get their Aadhar cards made there, and then move to other parts of the country,” Pal said, echoing Shah’s concerns about the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants, particularly from Bangladesh.

Pal further reinforced the BJP’s stance on border security, stating that once the party forms the government in West Bengal, it will prioritize stopping illegal immigration through strict border management. “He said the day BJP forms government in West Bengal, infiltration will stop. This means that we will set up border fences to stop illegal immigration of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis,” Pal added.

The comments highlight the ongoing political tensions surrounding border security and the issue of illegal immigration, which has been a point of contention between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal. With the BJP accusing the TMC of neglecting its responsibilities in securing the state’s borders, Pal’s statement underscores the party’s commitment to tackling the issue of infiltration and illegal immigration through stronger border controls and enhanced cooperation between state and central governments.
