Kiren Rijiju Slams Opposition Over Murshidabad Unrest, Says Common Muslims Support Waqf Amendment Act

Date:

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has strongly criticized opposition leaders and state governments over the recent unrest in Murshidabad, West Bengal, alleging that their refusal to abide by parliamentary laws reflects a disregard for the Constitution.

“The condition that they have created in Murshidabad, West Bengal… Chief Ministers, Congress and their party allies, whoever say that they will not obey the law made by the Parliament, do not believe in the Constitution of the country,” Rijiju said while speaking to reporters in Mumbai.

Drawing a contrast, he said, “We became ministers for the first time in 2014, we have worked all our life sitting in the opposition, we never said that we will not obey the law of the Parliament.”

Rijiju also addressed the ongoing debate around the Waqf Amendment Act, claiming that misinformation is being spread for political gain. “The work that these people are doing is going to cause a lot of harm to the country and they should not be under this misconception. Even among the Muslims, a large section of people are now coming and thanking Prime Minister Modi,” he said.

He stressed that the opposition narrative does not reflect the views of the broader Muslim community. “We should not say that all Muslims are protesting. At this time, common Muslims are supporting the Waqf Amendment Act and welcoming it,” Rijiju added.

The statement comes amid rising political tensions and nationwide discussions on the Waqf Act, with the BJP defending the legislation as a step toward transparency and reform, while opposition parties continue to raise concerns about its implications.
