Mumbai Metro Line 1 Introduces Cashback Rewards on Online Shopping for Commuters

Date:

Mumbai: Commuters on Mumbai Metro Line 1 will now be able to earn cashback on their everyday online purchases, as the metro operator has launched an app-based rewards feature aimed at reducing travel costs.

The new feature, introduced through the RapidCash platform, allows passengers to link their online shopping with savings that can be used to offset their commuting expenses. Under the scheme, users can earn up to ₹20 cashback per transaction when shopping through the app across major e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, and Ajio.

To avail of the benefit, commuters need to access these platforms via the RapidCash interface. Once a purchase is completed, the cashback is credited instantly and can be directly transferred to the user’s bank account, ensuring a seamless and convenient experience without additional redemption steps.

The initiative has been launched in collaboration with technology partners including RapidCash, Acetech Digital, and SequelString AI Pvt Ltd. Officials said the integration enables commuters to gain value from purchases they already make, without affecting existing offers available on e-commerce platforms.

Metro authorities have described the move as a first-of-its-kind initiative in the metro sector, as it uniquely combines public transport with digital commerce rewards. Instead of offering direct fare discounts, the system provides indirect savings by linking routine spending with travel benefits.

The launch is part of Mumbai Metro Line-1’s broader push towards digital innovation and commuter convenience. The corridor has previously introduced services such as QR code-based mobile ticketing, WhatsApp ticket booking, reward programmes, and unlimited travel passes.

Operational for over a decade, Mumbai Metro Line-1 connects Versova, Andheri, and Ghatkopar and remains one of the city’s busiest transit corridors. It has served over 120 crore passengers and maintains a punctuality rate exceeding 99%, underscoring its reliability in Mumbai’s urban transport network.

The RapidCash feature is currently available on both Android and iOS platforms, and is expected to enhance the overall commuting experience by making daily travel more cost-effective and digitally integrated.
