Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department has forecast a sudden change in weather conditions across Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra, warning of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and possible hailstorms.
According to the IMD, Mumbai is expected to experience light rain and thunderstorms, marking a shift from the prevailing hot and dry conditions.
The weather alert also extends to multiple districts across the state, where lightning strikes, gusty winds, and isolated hailstorms are likely. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious due to the possibility of sudden weather disturbances.
Officials said such pre-monsoon activity may temporarily bring relief from rising temperatures but could also disrupt daily life, traffic movement, and outdoor activities.
Additionally, IMD has issued a broader multi-day alert for Maharashtra, warning of rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several regions, including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Meteorological data also indicates that thunderstorms may be accompanied by winds of 30–40 km/h and moderate rainfall, with isolated areas experiencing more intense conditions such as hail.
The advisory underscores a wider pattern of unstable weather across India, where heatwave conditions in some regions are coinciding with thunderstorm activity in others.
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid open areas during lightning, secure loose objects, and follow official advisories, as weather conditions may change rapidly over the next few days.
