Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project Advances with Significant Progress

Date:

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity between two key Indian cities, has marked significant progress, according to a report submitted by Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.

As of the latest update, the project has successfully acquired 1,389.5 hectares of land, a crucial milestone for its development. The ambitious high-speed rail project spans 508 kilometers and includes 12 planned stations at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati. The sanctioned cost of the project is ₹1,08,000 Crore.

Construction work is advancing steadily. To date, 350 kilometers of pier foundations have been completed, along with 316 kilometers of pier construction. Additionally, 221 kilometers of girder casting and 190 kilometers of girder launching have been finalized. Notably, the work on the undersea tunnel, approximately 21 kilometers in length, has also commenced.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project is a complex and technology-intensive endeavor, incorporating advanced safety and maintenance protocols. Designed with support from Japanese railway experts, the project is tailored to meet Indian climatic conditions and operational requirements.

The timeline for the project’s completion will be determined once all associated works, including civil structures, track laying, electrical systems, signaling, telecommunication, and the supply of trainsets, are finalized.

The execution of the MAHSR project is under regular monitoring and review to ensure timely progress and adherence to standards. The development of this high-speed rail line is expected to significantly enhance travel efficiency and connectivity between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, reflecting India’s commitment to advancing its infrastructure capabilities.

This update was provided by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, highlighting the ongoing achievements and future prospects of the high-speed rail project.
