The controversy over Samajwadi Party leader and Maharashtra MLA Abu Azmi’s remarks on Aurangzeb continues to escalate, with BJP MLA Ram Kadam strongly condemning his statement and calling for his immediate suspension from the Maharashtra Assembly.
Speaking to the media, Kadam questioned how a historical figure like Aurangzeb, known for his brutal rule and persecution of Hindu leaders, could be praised in India.
“The invader who tortured and betrayed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who destroyed temples and places of worship, who enabled forced conversions—how can that person be praised in our country? Anyone who does that is a traitor,” said Kadam.
Kadam reiterated that BJP’s only demand is the suspension of Abu Azmi from the Maharashtra Assembly. “Our only demand is that he should be suspended,” he stated.
Azmi’s remarks have sparked outrage across political circles, with the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP coalition demanding strict action against him. Many political leaders and historians argue that glorifying Aurangzeb is an insult to Maharashtra’s rich history and its legacy of valiant rulers like Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj.
The demand for Azmi’s suspension is gaining momentum, with the opposition under pressure to take a stand. The controversy is likely to dominate the state’s political discourse in the coming days as calls for action against Azmi continue to grow.
