Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has hailed the upcoming Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project as a transformative step for Mumbai’s infrastructure and urban mobility. Speaking to the media, Shinde said, “The Thane-Borivali twin tunnel is a game changer project. It will reduce travel time between Thane and Borivali from two hours to just 15 minutes.”

The ambitious project, one of India’s longest urban tunnel infrastructure initiatives, aims to provide seamless connectivity between the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai, drastically cutting down congestion on key routes such as Ghodbunder Road and Western Express Highway.

Shinde confirmed that the twin tunnel will be completed by December 2028, and once operational, it will significantly boost economic activity, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance the overall commuting experience for lakhs of residents.

The twin tunnel will also feature advanced ventilation, fire safety, and surveillance systems, ensuring world-class standards in commuter safety and comfort.

Urban planners and transport experts have welcomed the announcement, saying the project could set a benchmark for future infrastructure initiatives in metropolitan regions across India.
