The BJP-led Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra is confident of a strong performance in the recently concluded municipal elections across the state, with leaders projecting that the ruling alliance will secure significant support in Mumbai and other urban bodies.
With the polling process completed in 29 municipal corporations, including major cities like Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, Mahayuti leaders have cited positive voter responses in various regions, particularly across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The turnout in key areas like Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar, and Navi Mumbai has been particularly promising, reflecting growing support for the ruling alliance.
Polling took place between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm, with turnout estimates ranging between 41% and 50%. Early indications suggest a strong performance by the BJP and Shiv Sena (Shinde), especially in Mumbai, where leaders from the alliance are confident of emerging as the single largest bloc in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). They attributed this to positive voting patterns, especially in areas with redevelopment projects and middle-class pockets.
Leaders from the alliance also expressed optimism about their chances in Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayander, Pune, Nashik, Nagpur, Solapur, and Kolhapur, citing a higher voter turnout and steady support for development initiatives like infrastructure improvements, roadworks, and welfare schemes.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, after casting his vote, stated that the civic polls would reaffirm the public’s trust in the Mahayuti government. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde echoed this sentiment, saying the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance had garnered strong support across Maharashtra. The alliance dismissed opposition claims of election irregularities, calling them “anticipatory excuses” ahead of the results.
Election officials confirmed that the voting process had been largely peaceful, with only a few isolated complaints of technical glitches and minor skirmishes, which are being addressed in accordance with the due process.
