Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his greetings on Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026, praising the impact of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in making quality medicines accessible and affordable for millions of people across India.

In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to affordable healthcare.

“On Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2026, my best wishes to all those who have been positively impacted by the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. Through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, countless families are saving on healthcare expenses and receiving proper treatment,” Modi said.

Affordable Medicines for Millions

The Prime Minister also shared a post by MyGovIndia highlighting the achievements of the Jan Aushadhi initiative. The post emphasised that quality medicines should be both affordable and accessible, especially for patients suffering from long-term illnesses.

“A long-term illness should never be a financial burden for families. Guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Jan Aushadhi scheme is transforming healthcare by making medicines for chronic conditions affordable and accessible,” the post said.

Medicines 50–80% Cheaper Than Branded Alternatives

According to official data, medicines available at Jan Aushadhi Kendras are priced 50 to 80 percent lower than branded alternatives, significantly reducing healthcare expenses for families.

The initiative has helped people across India save more than ₹40,000 crore on medicines. On average, around 15 lakh customers purchase medicines daily from Jan Aushadhi Kendras, making them a popular healthcare option for millions.

Rapid Expansion of Jan Aushadhi Kendras

The network of Jan Aushadhi stores has expanded significantly over the years. The number of centres has increased 224 times in the last 12 years, growing from 80 stores in 2014 to nearly 18,000 in 2026.

Sales at these centres have also risen sharply, increasing almost 270 times — from ₹7.29 crore in 2014–15 to more than ₹2,000 crore by February 2025.

Wide Range of Medicines and Surgical Products

Jan Aushadhi Kendras currently provide more than 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical products across 29 therapeutic categories, making them a one-stop destination for essential healthcare supplies.

Boost to Menstrual Hygiene and Women Entrepreneurs

The initiative has also improved menstrual hygiene awareness and accessibility. More than 100 crore sanitary pads have been sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, where sanitary pads are available at just ₹1 per pad.

Women entrepreneurs have played a significant role in expanding the scheme. Nearly 60 percent of the new Jan Aushadhi stores opened in the last three financial years are run by women, reflecting the programme’s role in promoting women-led enterprises while improving healthcare access across the country.
