Prime Minister Narendra Modi Lauds Global Popularity of Gujarat’s Traditional Dance, Garba

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lauded the increasing global popularity of Garba, a traditional dance form from Gujarat. In a post on X, the Prime Minister described Garba as a celebration of life, culture, and devotion.

“Garba is a celebration of life, culture and devotion. It also brings people together. It is gladdening to note that Garba’s global popularity is on the rise!,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Garba, a folk dance from Gujarat, is performed during the nine-day Hindu festival Navaratri. Traditionally, it is a circular form of dance performed by women around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or statue of Goddess Shakti.

The Prime Minister’s comments come at a time when Indian cultural forms are gaining recognition and popularity worldwide. The vibrant and rhythmic dance form of Garba has been embraced by people beyond the Indian diaspora, reflecting its universal appeal.

The Prime Minister’s post underscores the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage. It also highlights the role of such traditional forms in fostering unity and harmony among people.

As the global popularity of Garba continues to rise, it serves as a testament to the richness and diversity of Indian culture. It also underscores the potential of cultural diplomacy in enhancing India’s soft power on the global stage.

The Prime Minister’s recognition of Garba’s global appeal is expected to give a further boost to the promotion of Indian cultural forms worldwide.
