CM Devendra Fadnavis: Proud of Marathi, But No Tolerance for Language-Based Violence

Date:

Mumbai — Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has issued a stern warning against using language as a tool for violence or discrimination, emphasizing that while pride in the Marathi language is natural, it should not lead to hooliganism or injustice towards other languages.

“It is not wrong to be proud of the Marathi language in Maharashtra. But if someone indulges in hooliganism due to language, we will not tolerate it,” Fadnavis said in response to a recent language-based assault incident. “If someone beats up people on the basis of language, this will not be tolerated.”

The Chief Minister confirmed that police have already filed an FIR and taken action. He assured that legal measures will be taken against anyone attempting to create further language-based tensions in the future.

“We are proud of our Marathi, but injustice cannot be done to any language of India in this manner; we must keep this in mind,” he stated. Fadnavis also criticized the hypocrisy of individuals who readily accept English but raise disputes over Hindi, calling such actions irrational and unacceptable.

“Strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands,” he concluded.
