Nagpur Airport Taxi Fares Surge: ₹450 to Railway Station, ₹500 to Besa Amid Cab Strike

Date:

Nagpur, April 2026: Passengers travelling from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport are facing steep taxi fares, with rides costing around ₹450 to the railway station and ₹500 to Besa, amid disruptions caused by an ongoing cab drivers’ strike.

Fares Spike Due to Limited Transport Options

With app-based cab services largely unavailable due to protests, travellers are being forced to rely on prepaid “Cool Cab” services, which have significantly higher fixed rates.

Even short-distance trips, such as to Ajni railway station, are reportedly costing around ₹450, while fares for nearby areas like Besa are reaching ₹500.

Passengers Express Frustration

Commuters have raised concerns over:

  • High fares for short distances
  • Lack of affordable alternatives
  • Limited availability of transport options

Many passengers noted that under normal circumstances, app-based rides would cost significantly less, making the current pricing burdensome.

Drivers Defend Higher Charges

Taxi operators have justified the fare hike, citing:

  • ₹100 airport parking charges
  • Fuel and maintenance costs
  • Long waiting hours due to reduced demand

They argue that these factors make higher fares necessary to sustain operations.

Impact of Ongoing Cab Strike

The situation has been aggravated by an ongoing strike by app-based cab drivers, which has disrupted airport transport services and reduced competition.

As a result, passengers are left with limited and costlier transport choices, especially during peak travel hours.

Need for Better Regulation

The issue has sparked calls for:

  • Better fare regulation
  • More transport options at airports
  • Quick resolution of disputes affecting commuters

Until normal services resume, travellers in Nagpur are likely to continue facing higher travel costs and inconvenience.
