PM Modi Inaugurates Iconic Chenab Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir, Visits Bridge Deck

Date:

Jammu & Kashmir — Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, marking a historic milestone in India’s infrastructure development. The bridge, located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, is a critical link in the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.

Following the inauguration, PM Modi visited the bridge deck, where he was briefed on its engineering marvels and strategic importance. The Chenab Bridge, standing at a height of 359 meters above the riverbed, is taller than the Eiffel Tower and is designed to withstand high wind speeds and seismic activity.

“This bridge is not just an engineering wonder but a symbol of New India’s determination, connecting regions, boosting development, and empowering people,” said PM Modi.

Built over the Chenab River, the bridge will significantly enhance connectivity in the region, improving access and mobility for residents while also strengthening national security and tourism potential in the Union Territory.

The project is a testament to India’s growing capabilities in high-altitude infrastructure and is expected to be a lifeline for Jammu and Kashmir, fostering economic development and regional integration.
